Chilli Carney is a Scottish multidisciplinary artist who has been based in Berlin for the last three years. Their work is often introspective. Motivating this introspection is an intense desire to understand their place in the world. Art for them takes on two forms; creating a sense of order to the everyday or documenting their experience in regards to health, sexuality, and emotional bonds. Both aspects intersect at many points throughout their work.Â
Their art practice came about during their time at the University of Sheffield, where they completed their BA in Korean Studies. Art became an escape from their intensive curriculum and study hours, and since then has grown from collage and geometric work to encompass video, writing, performance, and art direction.
These days they live and work in Berlin, regularly DJ-ing in bars, performing their spoken word, or throwing various queer cultural events. You can always find them at Kotti!
